INTEGRAL BIOKINETICIST

Functional Integrative Medicine combines treatments from conventional medicine, traditional Chinese Medicine and those from Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) for which there exists high-quality evidence of safety and effectiveness.

In a broader sense, it is healing-oriented medicine that takes into account the whole person (body, mind and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle, and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative. The field is more than 10 years old and it is the only one of the emerging models to explicitly encompass the integration of therapeutics that, until recently, were the sole purview of complementary and alternative medicine.

“FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE is the future of conventional medicine–available now. It seeks to identify and address the root causes of disease, and views the body as one integrated system, not a collection of independent organs divided up by medical specialties. It treats the whole system, not just the symptoms” (Dr. Mark Hyman).

There’s a huge gap between research and the way healthcare providers practice. The gap between emerging research in basic sciences and integration into medical practice is enormous—as long as 50 years—particularly in the area of complex, chronic illness. As an "integral" Registered Biokineticist, understanding the complex inter-related and inter-connected lifestyle patterns (life habits), which may be extrinsic (dietary patterns, activity or exercise habits, work patterns, stress, sleep and relaxation patterns) or intrinsic (how you think, feel and what you believe) is the key to building real health and wellness.
